Our department is fortunate to have a great team of full-time, part-time and volunteers.  We occasionally have paid openings, and maintain a hiring list.

Job Postings

New Hope Fire Department staffs four full-time employees with over ten part-time employees in addition to our volunteers. 

Part-time firefighters and drivers are responsible for working a day-time, night-time, or 24-hour shift.  As a part-time firefighter or driver, you will play a crucial role in sustaining the department by ensuring the safety and well-being of the New Hope and surrounding community by responding to emergency calls, performing firefighting and rescue operations, and providing medical assistance and public service.   

Respond promptly to fire, medical, and other emergency calls, assessing the situation, and taking appropriate action to mitigate risks and save lives. 

Perform firefighting operations, including hose handling, ventilation, search and rescue, and the operation of fire apparatus and equipment. 

Administer first aid, CPR, and basic life support to individuals in medical emergencies, providing initial care until advanced life support arrives. 

Participate in ongoing training to maintain and enhance firefighting and emergency response abilities. 

Maintain and inspect apparatus, equipment, tools, station and property to ensure they are in proper working condition, reporting any issues for repair or replacement. 

Drivers are also responsible for performing the duties of an officer in their absence. 

The requirements for part-time firefighter are as follows: 

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • NC Firefighter Certification or equivalent (NFPA Firefighter I/II, IFSAC, or Pro Board accredited) 
  • NC Medical Responder or higher 
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 

The requirements for part-time driver are as follows: 

  • NC Class B License 
  • High school diploma or GED 
  • NC Firefighter Certification or equivalent (NFPA Firefighter I/II, IFSAC, or Pro Board accredited) 
  • NC Medical Responder or higher 
  • NC Technical Rescuer 
  • NC Emergency Vehicle Driver 
  • NC Driver Operator 
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 

Part-Time Drivers – $15-$23/hr 

Part-Time Firefighters – $13-$21/hr 

All positions receive holiday pay for 10 holidays, and time and a half for hours worked over 40/week. 

Annual contribution to NC State Firefighters’ Association Pension 

Full Time Benefits:

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a medical evaluation, drug test and criminal background check.

  • Copies of all your Fire or Emergency Service Related Certifications (all certifications) 
  • Copy of your EMT certification 
  • Copy of your NC driver’s license
